Thoughts on Next Paper

Being that I am a history major, I generally find myself concerned with historical matters and although I do enjoy researching and educating myself about current issues or politics I have found it hard to pick a topic for this paper which is relevant and current. I keep thinking about something that happened a while ago and thinking "how can I relate this to the present?"
One of the topics that I was thinking about is how capitalism, despite the propaganda, has been shown to cause exploitation and the polarization of money. There is a lot of research which has been done as well as the statistics which obviously show that this theory is really not a theory but fact. Not only is it true globally, for example the core-periphery model (a few "Western" nations, called the core, are at the top; a larger number of "middle class" countries, called the semi-periphery; and the largest number of poor nations, called the periphery), it also works on a smaller scale within countries like the U.S. where the top 1% of the wealthiest people in the country own roughly 40% of the wealth, the lowest 80% of the population owns only 20% of the wealth, and the lowest 40% own about 1% of the nation's wealth. Of course there is also a lot of sources to pull from for the contrary opinion.
Which leads me to my other topic that I was thinking of, that the U.S. is the the direct cause of the Israel-Palestinian conflict through various means, among them numerous UN resolutions which have been systematically blocked for three decades. While I could definitely go on about this for six pages, I was thinking that it may be better just to do something which is more of direct interest to everyone.
Maybe something like encouraging people to use public transportation, ride a bike, or walk, to work or school one day a week because it could decrease the air pollution nearly 5% would be better since it involves everyone and is more directly related to the public at large. I don't know, but I have all day tomorrow to decide since I don't have to work.
