I’m a writing my position on the topic of the BCS (bowl championship series) system in college football. For those you of unfamiliar the BCS system, it decides what two teams play in the national championship game of major college football. The most recent championship game was held on January 8, 2009 in Miami, Florida and featured a match up between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Florida.
My position on this topic is that it doesn’t not decide a true national champion because of such a selective system and that a playoff format, featuring either 4 or 8 teams would create a true national champion of college football. Fortunately being such an avid sports fan I have an informed opinion on this topic and thus will only need to use espn.com database of sports information for referencing specific statistical data. The BCS is a new system (put into place in 1998) and has had some proper tinkering but still college football does not get what it deserves, which is a true national champion.
