Blog 6, My Chosen Topic
My chosen topic is the creation of test tube meat to become the new main frame of meat eating! I’ve been doing research from magazines and the internet and found facts from Scientific America, PETA, and U.S. News. All sources speak positively about what test tube meat will do for the planet. This isn’t just an animal rights issue. It is an environment and human health issue. How many diseases have animals had that have resulted in a human becoming sick and/or dying after eating the said animal? How much antibiotics and pesticides can be traced in a steak? Do you realize how much pollution there is in the soil alone because of animal waste? Lab generated meat would appease two sides. The meat eaters looking for a healthier choice and the vegetarian/vegan who want to stop seeing animals treated and killed inhumanly for food consumption. I have found it fascinating how the meat is “grown,” and the benefits it has for everyone. Though I myself am a vegetarian, I chose to write in the state of mind of a meat eater. There are some arguments by meat eaters, of course. Some of these are in reference to taste, texture, the need to change to something so drastically different... it will be a lot for some people to even just try it. But think of humans 70 years from now. A student might read in their history class how people use to mistreat animals and kill them in slaughter houses to eat and they might find that idea barbaric. It’s all relative to what a person is exposed to. I am siding with the scientists on this issue that this is something we should go forward in doing. However, I anticipate to write my essay looking fairly at both sides.

Hi Anna,
ReplyDeleteI have to say, test tube meat sounds really gross. But your paper sounds quite interesting!
Keep in mind, however, that you are not looking to "look fairly at both sides" -- you should make a clear argument for ONE side.
