For my next paper, I want to discuss the topic of the budget cuts happening throughout the district. I feel this affects me because I wish to become a music teacher in a few years, and with luck, teach in the district that I was taught in. I feel that it would be the ultimate way of giving back to a community who gave so much to me and the programs I participated in. However, at the rate things are happening, I will be lucky to even see music programs left in the district at all, let alone have the opportunity of teaching them.
The budget cuts became a big deal my junior year of high school, and affected us all greatly. Indeed, because of all the hype and potential teacher losses, I lost one of the best music directors I have ever had the honor of learning under. He went to a different school because the job there was much more secure.
The local elementary schools have all cut their music programs, and the middle schools are on their way to doing so. I want to find a way to save these programs, and California education in general.
